Das Urteil im Originaltext:

Michael Schiechl (#13) of EC Red Bull Salzburg, time 51:56 was involved in an incident deemed as Cross checking (IIHF Rule 127). The video evidence was sent to the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga PSC, which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline – Category 1 – ‚Careless‘.

According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga PSC, Michael Schiechl (#13) of EC Red Bull Salzburg, will receive supplementary discipline under rule 127 – Cross Checking.

On January 5th in Innsbruck, a cross checking incident occurred involving EC Red Bull Salzburg Center (#13) Michael Schiechl on HC Innsbruck forward (#91) Caleb Herbert. A 5 minute + Game Misconduct was assessed by the on-ice officials.

As the video shows, the ensuing face-off after EC Red Bull Salzburg’s goal to make the game a 7-2 game, off a center ice face off, Michael Schiechl used his stick in a horizontal manner into the head area of Caleb Herbert. It was taken into consideration that the glove of Herbert initially contacted Schiechl in the head area immediately after the puck drop. Although the PSC recognized the action of Herbert is worthy of a penalty, it is not worthy of supplementary discipline.

The glove of Herbert, into the head area of Schiechl, does not give Schiechl the possibility to retaliate in the manner he did. Schiechl skated a short distance to engage Herbert with his stick horizontal and high. The stick contact is deemed recklessly endangering, due to the height through a arm extension, striking Herbert in the head area.

At no time is a player permitted to take action, deemed detrimental or dangerous, regardless of what he feels was a reason or cause to do so. Schiechl must refrain from the use of his stick in the head area of an opposing player.

Effective immediately, Michael Schiechl (#13) of EC Red Bull Salzburg is suspended for 2 games and fined 400.00 Euros. Key references:

  • This is Cross-Checking
  • Recklessly endangering
  • Category 1 – Careless
  • Not a repeat offender

From the perspective of DOPS and according to the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga Penalty Catalog Ref. Nr. 123 – Cross Checking, Michael Schiechl (#13) of EC Red Bull Salzburg is suspended for 2 games and fined 400.00 Euros, effective immediately.
