Gasper Glavic (#47) of HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice, time 49:09, made contact with an opponent deemed as Kicking, IIHF Rule 151. The video evidence was sent to the AHL Player Safety Committee (PSC), which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline – Category 3 – ‘Intentional’ – a willful purpose to injure. Incident is deemed serious in nature and is considered a willful negligence act of intent to cause injury, intending to affect the game by making illegal and/or unsuspecting contact.
According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the AHL PSC, player Gasper Glavic (#47) of HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice, will receive supplementary discipline under rule 151 – Kicking.
On Saturday, February 15th, (#47) Gasper Glavic of HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice, was involved in an incident deemed as Kicking on HC Pustertal forward (#21) Simon Berger.
As the video shows, Simon Berger has the puck froze against his skate, which is against the boards. With a multitude of players in the immediate area, a battle for the puck ensues. As the attacking player, Gasper Glavic enters the area where the puck is being protected by an opposing player. Instead of using his stick or body, Glavic uses his skate as a means of breaking the puck free.
The reason for supplementary discipline, is the actions Glavic used in pursuing the puck. Firstly, he used his right leg in a kicking manner which made skate to skate contact. This incident is deemed as a kicking motion.
With no outcome for the puck, Glavic then made a choice to kick a second time. He lifted his leg up and back to kick the opposing player in a stomping type manner. The forceful kick was targeted just above the ankle of the opposing player which is deemed dangerous.
Kicking is an act that has zero tolerance in the game. The use of a skate is recklessly endangering with a high probability of injury. It is inexcusable to consider there was 2 separate kicking incidents, with the 2nd incident being targeted and forceful. Effective immediately, Gasper Glavic (#47) of HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice is suspended for 7 games.
