EBEL: Austin Smith beendet seine Karriere mit schweren Anschuldigen gegen Bozen-Boss Knoll!

Finanzielle Probleme begleiten den HC Bozen seit dem Eintritt in die EBEL. Immer wieder wurde das Wort „Sommertheater“ mit dem HCB in Verbindung gebracht. Doch nun setzt ein Statement von Austin Smith dem Ganzen die Krone auf und bringt dem HXB ein Sommertheater der besonderen Art…

Der 29-jährige US-Stürmer kam 2016 erstmals in die EBEL, als er beim HCI anheuerte und in 58 Spielen 57 Punkte sammelte, sich damit beim HC Bozen ins Rampenlicht spielte, der ihn für die Spielzeit 2017/18 verpflichtete.

Doch mitten in der Saison erlitt Smith eine Gehirnerschütterung, die ihn zu einer Pause zwang. Er bestritt dennoch das Saisonfinish und trug mit vier Toren und sechs Assist maßgeblichen Anteil zum Meistertitel bei. Doch die Nachwirkungen zwingen ihn nun zum Karriereende.

Dafür macht er auch den HC Bozen verantwortlich. Smith gibt in einem Instagram-Statement bekannt dass er die Symptome der Gehirnerschütterung ignorierte, dies auch deshalb weil Teamärzte und GM Knoll kein Verständnis für seine Verletzung hatten. Sie hätten ihn gezwungen Schmerzmittel zu nehmen und zu spielen.

Laut seinem Statement verweigerte Bozen-GM Knoll ihm auch die Bonuszahlungen in den Playoffs, da er einige Spiele nicht absolvieren konnte. Selbst die Liga wäre eingeschritten und hätte erfolglos  versucht Dieter Knoll zu überzeugen die Zahlungen durchzuführen.

Heute muss Smith seine Karriere auf Grund der Nachwirkungen beenden und gibt an, dass weder Telefonanrufe, noch Emails seitens der Bozener Führung beantwortet werden, er mit den Kosten der Behandlung völlig alleine gelassen wird.

I have officially decided to retire from the greatest game I’ve ever played. I will miss it every day, but I’m grateful for everything it has given me in my life. I would like to thank all of my coaches, teammates, and fans I had the pleasure playing with, or for, along the way. I would always like to thank my parents and my wife for all of their sacrifices and endless support of me, allowing me to live out my dream. The last season was the perfect way to end my career. Unfortunately it came at a cost. I played the last part of the regular season and playoffs with a pretty severe concussion. I tried to convince myself I was healthy enough to play and that their wouldn’t be consequences. The team doctors and owner didn’t empathize with my symptoms and what I was going through. They forced pills on me and told me it would be ok. I even missed two games in the playoffs, because symptoms were so severe. The Gm, Dieter Knoll of @hcbfoxes, was furious and did not understand why I could not play. He actually refused to pay me the extra bonuses the team earned in the playoffs, because he felt that a concussion is not a reason to miss a game. The @erstebankeishockeyliga has been trying to convince the Gm to do what is right and pay me what I earned. Regardless of the money, the symptoms are still lingering, and treatment is very expensive. The Gm has not offered any help financially for the medical bills, and has dodged every phone call and email of mine. I will always cherish my time in Bolzano and I thank my teammates, coaches, and fans for helping me battle through until the end. I just hope that someday these symptoms will go away, and I really hope this circumstance never happens to anyone else. My advice to anyone going over seas is to really do your home work before choosing where you play. Good luck to all of my former teammates as you start a new season. Austin

Dennoch will der Stürmer seine Zeit in Bozen nicht missen und spricht durch den Meistertitel vom perfekten Abschluss seiner Laufbahn und bedankt sich bei der Unterstützung durch seine Familien, insbesondere seiner Frau.

Einen Tipp hat er abschließend auch noch parat. Nämlich dass jeder Spieler der nach Europa wechselt sich gut überlegt wo er unterschreibt… Ein Statement dass die den HC Bozen. Aber insbesondere die EBEL nicht gerade in ein positives Licht rückt…
